Representatives from the schools have formed a finance and HR group working together to clarify how the Academy Trust would operate eg. MIS systems, payroll, HR and other services. The academy will not be tied to LA services and processes.The academy can use other companies in order to get the best value for money. The LA undertook the ‘value for money’ process on behalf of schools – this task would fall to the schools in the CMAT.
The idea of the CMAT is that the schools work together. It is not about any one school ‘being in charge’ Collaboration would not compromise individual institutions and would strengthen the collective Catholic community. The threat to denominational transport in Kirklees showed how the two secondary schools worked together. We have also worked together across the Kirklees schools looking at how LCVAP funds are allocated for capital works within our group of schools. The governors will not have to find the 10% towards capital costs.
The larger the group, the better the buying power. It is also possible to purchase services from further afield if we wish. However, if schools are happy with current services, there is no need to change provider in most cases.
This is to be determined. It is normal for many service agreements to be charged according to the number of students or staff within a school. There may be other costs that are based on size of buildings leaving a few that may have to be shared equally by all schools.
This is for the school to answer. However, there is much expertise across the Trust schools and a willingness to share the burden of conversion. There will be some impact on leadership time but Conversion should be seen as a vehicle for school improvement in the widest sense.
We have not been able to find Ofsted data that separates out Convertor Academies from other Academies and schools at the current time.

Not unless the school wished it to. It is to be hoped that partnership working will grow across the Trust schools but there is no reason as to why most existing partnerships could not continue. Academy status should have no effect on feeder school status.
There are some obvious advantages in coordinating such matters at Trust Board level but schools would need to agree to this and there is no reason why such issues could not be left at school level for determination.
This is for school to answer but it is for each Governing Body to determine when and if they choose to pursue Academy Status.
